Protea (Proteaceae) Family shrub
native to South Africa; the King of the Protea’s for obvious
reasons if you have seen the 10-12” wide (even bigger
when dried) flowers in person. Otherworldly in magnitude!!
Beautiful deep red stems and leaf margins make this exotic
shrub entertaining even when not in bloom; National Flower
of South Africa; excellent cut or dried flower; drought
resistant once established; prefers well-drained soils
and deep infrequent watering once established; jaw dropping
water-wise patio plant; tolerates wind and salt spray;
low Phosphorus fertilizer or none at all
